During the oral exam checking the entire mouth is checked for cancer type lesions. This takes place during the head and neck exam. Dr. Mitchell will feel the muscles of the head and neck, palpate the right and left lymph glands on the neck. He will then feel and check the jaw joint. He will also lift the tongue, look at the top, tip and under both sides. Checking inside cheek tissue, back of throat, roof of mouth, hard palate and soft palate as well as the gum tissues, and the bite relationship of the upper and lower jaw completes the entire oral cancer screen.
At this time the Velscope may be used.
Velscope is a non invasive painless scope that enables the doctor to check for lesions in the mouth.
Now adding the Velscope screening. This scope allows greater insight into the condition of the mouth.
